Thunder Ridge Overlook

Thunder Ridge Overlook sits at 3,502 feet along the Blue Ridge Parkway, facing 330 degrees toward the northwest. The land drops 1,146 feet within 600 meters of the overlook, giving an open view across the ridgeline. Wildcat Mountain rises to the west-northwest at 2.6 miles, with Thomas Mountain, Wilson Mountain, and Pine Ridge also visible to the west and west-northwest at greater distances. To the north and north-northwest, the view extends toward Devils Marbleyard, Cave Mountain, Skillern Mountain, and Furnace Mountain, with Jellystone Park Natural Bridge visible to the north at 4.9 miles. Farther out, at 6.6 to 6.7 miles, the view reaches Cascade Falls Picnic Area, Jefferson Point, and Natural Bridge of Virginia, all to the north-northwest. Lynchburg lies 21.0 miles to the east-southeast, while Roanoke and Cave Spring are 31.0 and 35.6 miles to the southwest, respectively. Sunrise and sunset times vary through the year, from a 05:58 sunrise at the June solstice to a 07:30 sunrise at the December solstice. Terrapin Mountain Overlook precedes this stop along the parkway, and Arnold Valley Overlook follows it.
