Fishing Bridge Visitor Center and Trailside Museum

The distinctive stone-and-log architecture of this old building—known as "parkitecture"—was one of several prototypes for park buildings around the country. Today, the visitor center and museum highlight the ecology of Yellowstone Lake, focusing on birds. Also stop by to visit with a ranger and find out when ranger programs are scheduled, buy a fishing permit (payable by debit or credit card), pick up a souvenir, or take in some truly stunning views of Yellowstone Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Fishing Bridge Museum is situated near the north shore of Yellowstone Lake on the East Entrance Road. It can be accessed from the east and west directions.

Fishing Bridge Visitor Center and Trailside Museum 243 words A gravel path lined by stones leads to the one-story wood and stone structure with rectangular windows and three sets of double doors on the building facade. A gable roof supported by large round timbers overhangs the cement patio spanning the front of the building. Just below the roofline, the ends, or cross-sections, of several other timbers jut out slightly over the patio. On the left and middle entrance, an uneven stone step leads to the concrete patio with seams resembling the shape of stones. The right entrance does not have a step but is uneven with protruding stones where the stone step is is filled in with asphalt to make an uneven ramp to the patio. This leads to a concrete ramp with rails and a lip at the threshold into the building. An accessible button is at the left of the left of the door entrance. Indoor features include an information desk staffed by park rangers, exhibits, and an educational bookstore. A ramp is available on request to access the bookstore or Lake Biology exhibit rooms. There are two signs indicating the location of the restrooms. One sign accompanied by a long white arrow pointing left reads: “Restrooms by Parking Area.” The second sign reads “Restrooms” and includes an arrow pointing toward a wooded path that leads to the public restroom. There are evergreen trees dotting the grounds surrounding the center, where the Yellowstone River can be viewed behind the building. END OF MESSAGE
