Grant Visitor Center

Fire plays an important, natural role in the ecosystems found in Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding region. Learn more about this and the fires of 1988 in the exhibit hall, gather park information and trip ideas, shop for souvenirs at the park store, join a ranger program, buy a fishing, boating, or backcountry camping permit (fees are payable by debit or credit card), or use the restrooms.

Grant Visitor Center is located on the western shore of Yellowstone Lake, a short distance south of the West Thumb Geyser Basin. There are two directions from which to access Grant Village.

Grant Visitor Center 228 words A cement sidewalk leads to this one-story brown structure with a wide gable roof shading its entrance. Affixed to a horizontal board forming the base of an open triangle just below this roofline is the arrow-shaped National Parks Service emblem. Four wide steps with wooden handrails at left and right lead to a covered porch area also extending left and right. The double-door entrance to the Center is approximately six feet forward from the top of the stairs. You will encounter a rubber mat in front of the doors. A small sign with a wheelchair logo hangs on a pillar to the left of the top stair, indicating the wheelchair ramp with shallow curb that slopes upward approximately 20 feet from the left side of the building. Doors to the restrooms are located on the porch to the right of the entrance. The women’s room is approximately 10 feet from the entrance, with the men’s room another 25 feet beyond the women’s room. A covered deck overlooking the West Thumb of Yellowstone Lake is located at the rear of the center. This deck, which offers numerous benches for viewing the lake, can be reached by stepping through a second set of double doors in the building’s interior.
